More likely it's a large site of SORTED samples. There's a lot of stuff unusable to a tracker, but you can simply sort through what exactly you want and then download it. The site's also rather fast too. I pulled down some classy Moog pads and I was impressed with the quality. Uploads are accepted, too, but I think only in .WAV and .AIFF--which means that the site's not just for trackers. You were forewarned. ----------------------------------------- Topic: Utilities Today's utility of choice: Stomper "http://zap.base.org"--Author's page "http://stomper.base.org"--Program Page With HTML documentation and a ton of shortcuts to HTM files, Stomper is definitely web-based. I have a personal WSOCK32.DLL problem on my machine, and to get it to run without dialing up I had to install a null-library. However, it's not JUST an drum machine emulator--Stomper can do bass, entire groove lines (this can take a while), and has a rather easy learning curve. It supports tons of features, but some of the controls make it look like more of a Professional DJ's tool rather than a Tracker's friend. The learning curve is rather high, but once you look at the examples provided with the program, things become a lot easier to decipher. If you liked Kraftwerk, wanted a TR-909, or need something that can distort those stupid sound effects your little brother uses for windows sounds, grab Stomper. It's rather easy to learn and is fairly powerful. The liscence is also musicware, which means that you send Zap (the creator) any music you do with the samples. I must admit that's both original--and his "Liscence Agreement Quiz" is quite innovative. Don't forget the Little Drummer Boy plug-in, which isn't rated. Rating: (Could be a bit more powerful--hard to master the idea of filters) 9 / 12 ----------------------------------------- Topic: Reviews He's back! Title: crypt (#15) Artist: john culver Label: schleudertrauma (ftp://ftp.stack.nl/pub/music/schleudertrauma/) Style: minimal Still minimal, still great, still schleudertrauma. Seems like they're focused on minimal... so much, in fact, that I sometimes wonder if there is more than one person behind all these tunes. This one has some great squeaky sounds and a nice kick. It's repetitive and not too many elements come and go. However, the strong part of the track is the attention to detail put into it. Title: black cascade music collection #4 Artists: loke Label: BlackCascade (ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/music/groups/blackcascade) Style: pseudo-ambient but with beats and stuff 5 tunes all quite very good. They all have a similar style. They all have a dark, strange feeling--a cross between comfortable and unconfortable. The first tune of the pack really has some subtle effects that you should definitely listen to. I hope some of you will really take the time to get this music. Anyone knows where I can find their homepage or more tunes?? My crappy mail (that often gets stuck): happy303@technologist.com --happy303 ----------------------------------------- Topic: Features: Trax0r of the weex0r Contributor: Kalanaras This is a log capture of an interview with darkhalo, this week's trax0r of the weex0r. It's a deep, intimate, personal kind of interview, the kind you see Geraldo Rivera do when he's looking to score ratings. Actually, it's shallow as hell, but hey! It's better than reading reviews all damned day! So let's give a warm welcome to DARKHALO, Featured Trax0r of the Weex0r! -k (kalanaras@hotmail.com) alright, for the record... are you a boy or a gurlie? guy alright then. I'll start right in. how long have you been trax0ring? 7th grade i learned how to track with modmkr.. so about 5 years hmm.. so what class do you throw yourself in, trax0ring wise? intermediate? umm i have no idea.. i guess intermediate and what tracking tool do you use? ft2 vs it... nibbles vs RAW POWER AND UTTER AWESOMENESS.. (not to be baised.) ft2, cuz it has a cheezy built-in sampler true, true. the one thing I sorta miss in IT. and the only reason i stick with ft2 so, how high quality of samples do you like? 1 (chip) to 10 (big as your average microsoft app) hehe 10, though i usually downsample when i upload.. because i like to maintain high quality in my songs-i hate the "tracked" sound, i try to make my songs sound professional, so i sample long synth loops oooh, you rebel, you. that way i dont take up as many tracks either, though the filesize increases.. and i always sample at 44.1khz 16bit (i would stereo if ft2's sampler would) how often do you track these amazing, huge tracks? hm you mean how often do i finish a song? well, finish, yes, I suppose that is what I was asking. how often do you make a releasable song? umm it seems to be taking me longer and longer each song i make.. but let's say, on average, in the past few months.. at least a week to finish one.. i like to make em at least 5 minutes long too i guess a few weeks.. like 3 weeks ok. which leads directly to the next question, which usually explains a lot about the tracking time inbetween each song... because this seems to take over your life more than tracking can ever hope to how many hours a day on average do you spend in #trax? umm 1-3 doesn't mean i'm there tho :) heh. and, when you do trax0r something out... what style is it usually in? what's your favorite to track? intelligent drum'n'bass, i guess it's called.. musical ambient with fast drums i try to track music with a theme to it.. what's your least favorite style that you've actually tracked? heh least fav? umm lemme think i guess i tracked a chiptune b4 :b and some cheezy pop you're not a wild n' crazy 80's kind of guy? oh well... we cant all be I guess now, here is the more personal section, where we really see what really makes you tick... heh k :) 1. do you own a spice girls album? heh no 2. how about sex pistols? who? they're a cheesy punk band. oh nope 3. how much pr0n do you have? (in megs) depends on the size of my cache :) i never save any 4. are you known to torture small animals? hehe i threw an injured lizard across the street once by its tail I'll take that as a "yes" 5. do you find the mcdonald's character, ronald mcdonald, to be scary? umm sort of, in a richard simmons kinda way hahaha 6. how many licks DOES it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? ask mr. owl 7. if you had to have sex with a barnyard animal, which would it be? umm lemme think so many choices, I know... does the farmer's daughter count no, she's close to a barnyard animal, but... no. then i'll hafta go with the rooster ok then! 8. what's your favorite atari game? if you're post atari, fav nintendo game. um, mario brothers 2 9. what is the meaning of life? umm just a sec.. 42 damn, I should've KNOWN that And... most importantly... the last question of the interview. (tense music) incoming 10. is fasttracker nibbles better than QBasic nibbles to you? why or why not? damn thats a tuffy I know. that's why it comes last. take your time. ft2 nibbles, because your scores are in hex. ah, but of course! ft2 nibbles reigns s00preme. yea alright then, thanks for your interview time, you trax0r of the weex0r, you [I think davidm better watch out--Kalanaras just usurped his throne.] ----------------------------------------- Topic: Contests / Compos: Trax.TG Contributor: Dragonite Here are the results for Trax.TG June 6th 1st- Big Brass Slammer by The Thunder Buffalo 2nd- Under da Bungalow by Pig-ass Hammer 3rd- Wild Life by Activator 4th- SampoSuck by Dragonite 5th- Fuck You Paco by Druidd 6th- Hanson Live 2 by Druidd Moments by Spawn disqualified because he didn't vote.
